What to do in an emergency

The following general advice applies in emergencies, including a terrorist attack:

  • Call the emergency services: call 112 if every second counts
  • Do not put yourself or others in danger
  • Follow the advice and directions of the emergency services
  • Stay calm and think before acting; try to reassure others
  • If you are injured, remember to help yourself first
  • Then check whether you can help others.

If you are not directly involved, make sure you do not obstruct the work of the emergency services. If possible, turn on a radio or television to obtain more information.

What to do if an attack occurs abroad

When a terrorist attack occurs abroad, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs generally sets up a special telephone number in the Netherlands to deal with inquiries concerning any Dutch nationals who were on the spot. This number is announced via the media and the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which also gives up-to-date travel advice.
