Could my business be an attractive target for terrorists?
When choosing a target, terrorists think about the impact an attack will have, such as a large number of casualties or major damage. You can find out whether your business could be attractive to terrorists by answering four questions.
If terrorists attacked your business, would they:
- inflict many casualties?
Are there many people on the premises? How easily can the emergency services reach the premises? - cause major economic damage?
Would an attack mean that your business or neighbouring businesses would be prevented from providing a crucial service or product, such as the telecommunications network? - cause a disaster?
Could a minor attack go on to cause devastating damage, such as an explosion, poisoning, or contamination from substances stored on your premises? - undermine social values or make a symbolic statement?
Could terrorists regard your business as a symbol of social, ideological, or religious values? - cause social unrest?
Would an attack, or even the threat of an attack, on your business cause social unrest?
