European Visa Information System (EU VIS)
The European Union is working on a European Visa Information System (EU VIS). The EU VIS will record the biometric identifiers of visa applicants, which improves the exchange of information between countries and national border control agencies. Biometric facial scans will be introduced at the end of August 2006. Biometric travel documents will be issued from end of 2006. The EU VIS will become operational in 2007.
