Deze studie in opdracht van de NCTb probeert een antwoord te geven op vragen zoals: Wat maakt dat radicale bewegingen afbrokkelen? Hoe komt het dat een gewelddadige koers op een gegeven moment afgezworen wordt? Waarom zeggen sommige personen hun radicale groep vaarwel? En omdat islamitische vormen van radicalisme veel aandacht krijgen, en men in Nederland daarmee relatief onbekend is, proberen we met name uitspraken te doen over een mogelijke teruggang van dit verschijnsel. De studie zegt iets over mogelijke deradicalisering in de toekomst en over hoe dit proces van deradicalisering desgewenst te ondersteunen zou zijn.

The National Coordinator for Counterterrorism (NCTb) commissioned a project team headed by Prof. B.P.R. Gersons from the AMC in Amsterdam to conduct a descriptive, systematic study on the psychosocial effects of threat and protection. The aim of the study was to facilitate a more systematic approach to the support of threatened people and their families, who have been entrusted to the care of the NCTb, and to incorporate the latest insights into that support.
