Government responds to Suyver Committee report

The Suyver Committee has recommended a comprehensive evaluation of the government’s package of counterterrorism measures. In the Committee’s view the scope of the evaluation should be broader than the criminal justice system alone. The Ministers of Justice and of the Interior & Kingdom Relations have agreed to adopt these and other recommendations.

Although the chances of an attack against the Netherlands or its interests remains realistic, no concrete indications have been identified in the past year. The Netherlands and its overseas interests are still viewed as one of the preferred targets by jihadist networks operating internationally. The film Fitna has been regarded by jihadists as a form of insult and provocation, making it their most important reason for targeting the country. It is expected that the Netherlands will remain in the jihadists’ field of vision for the time being.
