What sort of surveillance activities do the local police carry out?

The local police carry out public safety and surveillance activities in the direct surroundings of the persons concerned. Such activities include having a local community officer visit their home, inviting them to report to the local police station, contacting their family, contacting their place of work or education, contacting their neighbours, visiting places that they frequent (such as call shops or cafés), distributing cards in their neighbourhood urging the public to report suspicious behaviour anonymously to the police – in other words, extensive (though not systematic) surveillance of the persons concerned.
